Fiction
Words by Daniel Reizes
He felt solace working under the hot sun. Years of punching keys and clocks, racing from one meeting to the next. It all became too much, leaving him fractured. Split between the things in life that really mattered and those that simply had to be done in order to maintain pole position on the hamster wheel. Forever running in place.

The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane
by Lisa See
I love a novel that encourages you to learn something new about a niche topic. What Dave Eggers did for coffee in The Monk of Mokha, Lisa See does for pu erh tea. While See is a prolific writer, this was one of my favorite stories in her canon. A beautiful tale of a family torn apart by ancient practices woven together with the history and lore of pu erh tea. Find a cozy spot at your local tea house to sample each type of this earthy, fermented Chinese brew while devouring this book.

The Creative Act: A Way of Being
by Rick Rubin
“The Creative Act” serves as both a gentle, playful reminder and an enlightening guide for accessing the often hidden-in-plain-sight secrets to harnessing your inner powers of creation. Crafted with the same blend of freshness and timeless wisdom that marks the greatest works of art, this book stands as a testament to Rick Rubin's indelible influence on our culture at large. His musings and insights will help ground you in the present moment and deliver a much-needed sense of calm. Read this book with a highlighter in hand and a notebook by your side. Keep it on your desk, coffee table, or nightstand, and refer to it often.

East of Eden
by John Steinbeck
It’s impossible for a lover of books to pick a favorite, but East of Eden has been at the top of my list for decades and is one of very few that I read again and again. With its early 20th-century California setting, complicated family dynamics, and timeless good versus evil theme, this book has it all. It’s no wonder Hollywood has continually been drawn to it. Netflix is rumored to be developing a new limited series adaptation written by Zoe Kazan (She Said, The Big Sick) and starring Florence Pugh (Oppenheimer). Previously adapted as a film in 1955 by director Elia Kazan, Zoe’s Grandfather, it was noteworthy for being James Dean’s first major film role.

Rant: “Every Choice Available” for MSI
I’ve noticed these full-page ads popping up in The New Yorker recently. First, it was coffee and now it’s bagels. I understand the concept—shock people with the insane level of choice New Yorkers are blessed with in contrast to the complete lack of choice women have when it comes to accessing contraception. It’s an original idea for sure, but it falls short in execution. And when your cause holds the lives of so many throughout the world in the balance, that’s a serious problem.

Words by David Feinsmith
Three years ago, we were all talking about the blockchains, memecoins, and NFTs of a decentralized Web3. Two years ago, in the lingering homebound days of the pandemic, we dreamed of escaping to virtual worlds in the metaverse, a technological evolution Mark Zuckerberg was so sure of that he rebranded his empire in an intellectual property land grab on the word “meta” itself.
Today, however, blockchains and the metaverse have mostly been overtaken in the hype cycle by generative AI. We still haven’t even seen the true potential of yesterday’s breakthroughs and already they are passé.
